    The fine print

Your settings stay on this device. Electricity and gas default to the Ofgem price cap for October–December 2026; oil and bottled gas are rough UK averages. Logs are kiln-dried, bought in bulk: small bags from a garage can cost four times as much. Every electric heater (fan, oil-filled, convector) turns 1 kWh of electricity into 1 kWh of heat, so its size only changes how fast the room warms up, not the bill. Boilers lose some heat up the flue, and more when they keep switching on and off to heat one small room; if other radiators stay on, lower “Central heating reaching this room”. An open fire sends most of its heat up the chimney. Standing charges, chimney sweeping and buying the kit are ignored.
